Walter Michels

Already back from my short holiday trip to Minneapolis, I got a call from my mother this morning at 10:12 informing me that her father had passed away some time during the night. His health had been on a slow decline for the last few months and it fell rapidly just this last week. I am very thankful to have been able to visit home and see him a final time with my family over Christmas.

He and my grandma, Euphelia, were married 61 years, since 1946.

my jacket still smells of smoke

The mobile home that Mike and Christine live in burned while they were away last night. Firefighters said it was electrical. They returned this afternoon to see if anything more could be saved, but everything was charred or melted. The trailer started smoking again while I was there and the grandson of the park owner used a neighbor’s garden hose to prevent more flames.

NSM March Week

During the week of March 4, the city of Columbia, Missouri, came together in preparation for a public march by the National Socialist Movement, a provocative Neo-Nazi group. This is a photographic documentary of the peaceful response and counter-event generated by the community.
