The Rescue

After “abducting” themselves to show solidarity with kidnapped child soldiers in Uganda, several hundred people planned to spend the night on the steps of the Arch until being “rescued” the following morning. About 100 simultaneous events in cities around the world were coordinated by the Invisible Children organization on April 25-26. The goal of “being rescued” was to attract major public figures to show support the cause, as well as raise money and write letters to members of congress.

Although I knew about this ahead of time, it was actually a total coincidence that I was there: the event was being covered by another photographer and reporter for the P-D but I didn’t realize the location and timing would align perfectly with my own prior plans to visit the Arch.
